Carjackers Don’t Know Jack

We love to report on those criminals that, well, shouldn’t quit their day job. And if this is their day job? They should freshen up their resume and try again.

These three men are so young they probably weren’t aware that there are cars without an automatic transmission. If you asked them what the two types of transmissions are, they would probably cock their heads like a dog when you say “Walk?”

So imagine their surprise when they approached a man in front of his home, brandishing guns. The man was unloading groceries from his car just after 7:00 p.m. on Saturday when the men demanded his car keys and forced him to the ground.

Can you imagine the next scene? We imagine it like scene from a comedy film: The three men hurriedly jump in the car to speed off. Can they even figure out what to do with the clutch? Have they even seen a stick shift before? Did they even get it started before it stalled?

According to the Vallejo Times-Herald, after stalling the car, the would-be carjackers fled on foot. It’s not said if they were found and arrested, although luckily the victim was not injured. And clearly, he still has his car.

A note to other potential carjackers: There’s hardly any stick-shift cars out there anymore, but they DO exist. To really be on the top of your game, learn to use a clutch. This from the Daily Finance website: “In 1980, J.D. Powers and Associates estimates that more than 35% of all cars sold had a stick shift. By 2005, that number had dropped to 6%. Four years later, finding a car with a manual transmission is a big challenge – you have to go either high end or very low end. 2008 was the last year that any manufacturer of full-size trucks offered a manual transmission.”
