Why Are Schools Allowing Sexual Predators?

Teaching is not a job. but a vocation, they say. Many people would not, and do not, take on the extreme responsibility of teaching children. Yet for some people, it seems to be a perfect way to be near youngsters for reasons other than teaching.

We know that there’s a great number of fantastic teachers out there, doing their best with state budget cuts and mandatory testing. But we’re worried that the administration of school districts out there are allowing some individuals to get away with some alleged unconscionable conduct. Continue reading

Porn Industry to Leave Los Angeles Over Condom Law?

Few people are unaware that the San Fernando Valley is the pornography capital of California, if not the nation, and for decades, this seems to have served everyone well, from the “actors” to the producers to the city itself, which collects revenue.

Now some do-gooders in the health industry seem set to throw a wrench in this smoothly operating industry by requiring porn performers to wear condoms while, ahem, going about their job as of March 5. Continue reading

Huntington Beach Sued by Woman After Bar Fight

Almost a year ago, on March 26, 2011, Marcia Moses went out for a few drinks to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Outside a Main Street bar, Moses “exchanged words” with a 21-year-old woman, as the Orange County Register reported. This turned into a pushing match between the 21-year-old and Moses, a mother of three who was out to have a nice night, but not to get inebriated, according to a friend.

According to police, they allegedly were flagged down to break up the fight between the two women, but before they arrived, a 28-year-old friend of Moses’ intervened in the fight and threw a punch at the 21-year-old. When police tried to arrest the man, Moses allegedly tried to stop it. Continue reading

$1,000 Reward for Catching Tustin Old Town Vandals

Early in the morning of Thursday, February 9th, six people were seen in the vicinity of Cox’s Market Plaza in Old Town Tustin, but four had left the area when Phil Cox heard the sounds of breaking glass. The group was described as being in their late 20s to early 30s.

Which is interesting, because we associate vandalism with younger people, usually in their teens, and vandalism was exactly what happened. Phil Cox, owner of Cox’s Market Plaza, had created a memorial for his parents on his grounds, to commemorate their efforts in improving and preserving Old Town Tustin. The memorial consists of hand-painted signs representing the building back in 1936, when it was surrounded by orange groves, and a portrait of Cox’s parents, Edwin and Leola. An American flag completed the memorial.

Neither the flag nor the portraits were damaged in any way, just the lights. “They may have had just reasons to be angry at their parents but I don’t know why they are angry at my parents,” Cox said to the Orange County Register. “And I don’t know what they have against the flag of our country but I wish they’d leave it alone.”

Phil Cox is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the vandals.

How do you feel about vandalism? What about graffiti? Are you surprised that people of this age group are suspected of vandalism? Do you have problems with either, or both, in your Orange County community? How do you deal with it? What would you suggest that Phil Cox do about this problem?

If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Tustin Police Department on (714) 573-3200.

Marine Killed By Police on San Clemente High School Campus

The sheriff’s department is still not releasing the information on what made an officer fear for his life and shoot Marine Sgt. Manuel Loggins on Tuesday morning, in front of his two daughters. To be fair, there’s a lot about the case that seems hard to explain, like why Loggins allegedly drove at high speed through a gate at the San Clemente High School parking lot that morning, or why he allegedly ignored the deputy’s orders to stop when exiting the car.

Loggins eventually died later from the officer-involved shooting. Continue reading

NASA Hacker Could Get 10 Years in American Prison

In 2010, there was an attack on the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder Program on 25 computers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. Because of the compromise, NASA had to take the computers offline for two months in order to remove malicious code and restore the damaged data. The program is used for weather forecasting and climate research. The damage caused by the hacking was estimated at half a million dollars, which includes the cost of computer repair and lost research time. Continue reading
